Notice Regarding UST Curriculum & Academic System Improvements (draft)

The goal of the University of Science and Technology (UST) is to foster creative, impactful talents through education and research focused on emerging convergence technologies.

To that end, the proposed changes to UST’s curriculum and academic system aim to strengthen the capacities of students across majors and research areas and so promote field-based education in response to stakeholders’ demands, including those of students and those who employ them, including governments, academia, and industry.

These amendments to the relevant school regulations and guidelines will be deliberated on from May to June and are scheduled to be applied on September 1, 2021. However, before then, we hope to gather feedback from faculty and students on the major changes that have been suggested in the attached documents.

Please note that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are unable to arrange a public hearing and have, instead, decided to relay this information in writing.

According to standard procedures, amendments to school regulations are usually applied to students when they are admitted. However, given that we are making these changes to strengthen major and research capacities, we are planning to apply these changes to currently enrolled students, namely registered students, students on leaves of absence, and graduates who have completed their programs. We are planning to apply these changes in a way that should minimize potential confusion that may result from the fact that these changes touch many interlinked elements in UST’s curriculum and academic system.

Furthermore, currently registered students will be given a grace period during which these changes will not apply to them for some changes in order to reduce any negative impact that they may have.

All faculty members and students are advised to carefully review the proposed curriculum and academic system improvement plan.
