In accordance with the guidelines from the Ministry of Education, students of non-Korean nationality are required to have valid medical insurance, through either National Health Insurance or private sickness insurance providers, during their stay in Korea.
Since 2011, foreign UST students (excluding students on leave of absence) who are not already covered by National Health Insurance have been enrolled in private sickness insurance plans and have been provided financial support accordingly.
There has been a recent increase in UST students seeking contracted employment as student researchers at government-funded institutes. Foreign students who successfully find employment are covered by National Health Insurance as a mandatory stipulation of their contracts.
Please note that UST students of foreign nationality (excluding students on leave of absence) who are already covered by National Health Insurance are not eligible for UST sickness insurance benefits provided by the UST.(from 2019.06.01.)
Furthermore, UST enrolls current and graduating students in insurance plans covering sickness and injury due to accidents in laboratory and research facilities and UST will pay the respective fees when due.
