Jeong Jae-ung, a UST student affiliated with the Graduate School of Science and Technology (UST, President Moon Kil-choo), won the National Research Council of Science & Technology (NST) Chairman’s Award in the 2017 Science and Technology Administration Advancement Conference of Contributors (research institutes). Jeong is currently studying the combined courses of science and technology management policy at UST Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) campus.

The NST organized a conference to advance the administration of science and technology and to activate communication and cooperation among contributors (research institutes), and selected best practices by each of three different subcommittees (the Administrative Efficiency Performance Subcommittee, Contributors (Research Institutes)’ Best Practices Subcommittee, and Policy-Sharing Academic Subcommittee) to give the Minister of Science and ICT award (to one person) and the National Research Council of Science & Technology Chairman’s Award (to four people).

The award that Jeong won concerns the topics of the Policy-Sharing Academic Subcommittee, and the title of the paper is “Analysis of Contributors (Research Institutes)’ Research Clusters for Solving Social Problems: Focusing on the Network Analysis of Particulate Matters Research.” In this paper, Jeong analyzed contributors (research institutes)’ research clusters for solving social problems, and presented the contributors (research institutes)’ research-focused areas and research-free areas. This paper was also selected to be presented at the 2017 Korea Technology Innovation Society Autumn Academic Conference in recognition of the meaning and value of academic research.

Jeong said, “It is a great honor for me to receive the National Research Council of Science & Technology Chairman’s Award, and this award enhances my self-confidence and self-motivation,” adding, “I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Jeon Seung-pyo, who was meticulously involved from the selection of the topic to the completion of the paper, and academic advisor Park Hyun-u, who has always been a real support.”
