Course Name
Advanced Radiation Measurement and Technology
Summary
Lecture Objectives
- This course introduces the principles of radiation detectors used in radiation measurements. This course will particular focus on the scintillation-based radiation detector: we will have a comprehensive examination of scintillation crystals and photodetectors including their mechanisms as well as the most current trends.

Introduction to Proabilistic Safety Assessment of Large Industrial Facilities
Summary
Lecture Objectives
- In this course, we will lecture on the Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) method, which
is a risk assessment method for large industrial facilities such as nuclear power plants and
airplanes. In addition, the course includes lectures on probability/statistics and reliability
assessment methods for risk assessment, as well as practical exercises on related S/W.

Introduction to Human Reliability Analysis
Summary
Lecture Objectives
- This course covers the underlying idea of diverse human reliability analysis (HRA) methods with the associated technical disciplines including human factors and cognitive engineering. The purpose of this course is to (1) understand the concept of human reliability, (2) understand the nature of human error including the concept of performance shaping factors, and (3) develop the ability to estimate the likelihood of human errors. A term project experiencing the process of a typical human reliability analysis will be carried out to consider the contents of this course.
Tribology

Course Name
Tribology
Summary
Lecture Objectives
- The purpose of this lecture is to understand a wear failure of structural components, and acquire an ability of solving the wear problem mechanically, to enhance the safety of a mechanical structure such as nuclear fuels and power plant components.
To this end, theories of tribology and contact mechanics are introduced, with aiming to enable the students to understand and derive the mathematical equations for application.
Fracture Mechanics

Course Name
Fracture Mechanics
Summary
Lecture Objectives
- The purpose of this lecture is to understand the cracking failures of the structural components (especially for the nuclear power plant components), and to acquire an ability of tackling the fracture failure problems by using a linear elastic fracture mechanics theory.
For the purpose of it, introduced are the complex potential theory, dislocation density function theory and the theory of singular integral equations within the elasticity regime, with aiming to enable the students to apply the theories to the mechanical failure problems and to derive the design improvement.
