    ETRI School

    Introduction

    Today, we are living in the age of a great revolution called the 4th Industrial Revolution. This revolution is sometimes also referred to as the “Age of Digital Transformation” or the “2nd Period of the Information Age.” Regardless of the term used, the key enabling technology is ICT. Collectively called ABCI, Artificial Intelligence (A), Big Data (B), Cloud computing(C), and Internet of Things (I) are all ICT. Therefore, we at ETRI are aware of the immense responsibility because our organization presides over all ICT research and development efforts sponsored by the national government. As a tool of innovation, ICT is not only intellectualizing the structure of industries from manufacturing to defense, medical care, culture, education, and agriculture/livestock/fishing industries but will enhance the individual lives of people in safe, convenient ways. The approximately 2000 employees of ETRI are diligently and strongly devoted to carrying out research to realize this national calling. ETRI plans to acquire global technological competitiveness through the development of hyper-connected intelligent infrastructure technology and lend support to the innovative growth of the country. At the same time, based on ICT, we will contribute to the creation of a safe social environment that people can trust with peace of mind. We also wish to help build a nation that overflows with the spirit of caring through the development of “people-friendly” ICT that could be used in creating a people-oriented digital society. ETRI is continuously committing its resources to R&D efforts that could lead to a better future, a safer environment, and a comfortable life. We will become a research institute beloved by the public, trusted by the government, and acknowledged by our customers. We would appreciate your encouragement and advice in helping ETRI go beyond South Korea to the rest of the whole world. Inspired by public expectations, we shall respond by becoming a national research institute that can lead the future of humanity and the country through collaborations with domestic and international experts.

    KFRI School

    Introduction

    The Korea Food Research Institute (KFRI) is a Government-affiliated research institute established in 1988 for the realization of Healthy Korea by providing people with wholesome food and by contributing to the improvement of the national agriculture, fisheries and food industries through advanced food science and technology. Today food is not consumed for survival per se but for the enhancement of health and prevention of disease which lead to good quality of life. The food industry should create a healthy national economy through value-addition to products from agriculture and fisheries. With these facts in mind, KFRI aims to achieve the following goals: - to carry out research on functional food, food safety, and food nano-technology through the development of emerging and original technologies for the improvement of people's health and quality of life. - to work on the globalization of Korean traditional foods and to add value to agricultural and fisheries products for high-industrialization of agriculture and fisheries and to - operate various industrial supporting systems to establish public-based technologies for the achievement of the Nation's strategic goals. In addition, KFRI endeavors to lead the future of the national food industry and to be the birthplace of ting-edge food science and technology by developing convergence technologies with IT, BT, NT, ST, and medical science through the establishment of cooperative networks with foreign and domestic universities, research institutes and industry.

    KICT School

    Introduction

    Construction technology is typical public technology that is applied to the planning, design, construction and maintenance of social infrastructures such as housing, roads, bridges, tunnels, dams, and airports, all of which are indispensable to citizen’s daily lives. Futhermore, the economic and social effects are very great due to the large scale of construction work. Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology which is the only government-funded research institute in the field of construction in Korea contributes to the development of the national industry through various research facilities and outstanding researchers. In addition, UST-KICT School is committed to cultivate convergent and integrated type of talented people who respond to the rapidly changing global construction industry in the 21st century.

    Introduction

    Occupying more than 70% of our planet's surface, the ocean has been the largest regulator of the Earth's environment, the foundation of human activities and prosperity. Since the coming into the 21st century, the economic feasibility of the marine industry has increased together with the advanced science and technology, and the importance of maritime security has also been emphasized. Therefore, the need for understanding, research and development of the ocean is further growing. To meet the requirements of the times, the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology(KIOST) operates the KIOST School. And the KIOST School aims to foster next generation international experts in marine science who challenge to solve global issues directly tied to the survival and prosperity of mankind.

    Introduction

    KITECH was founded in 1989 to support industry sector especially SMEs as an application-oriented research institute. KITECH focuses on 3 key research areas: advanced manufacturing technology, industrial technology convergence, and sustainable manufacturing system technology. With an aim to strengthen field-oriented support for SMEs, we are running 3 research centers and 7 regional divisions.     Introduction

    Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology(KRICT) significantly contributes to the advancement of Korea’s chemical technology industry by developing chemical and convergence technologies, transferring technologies to the commercial sector and educating future professionals. Utilizing high-tech chemical infrastructure, KRICT helps solve social issues through the development of source technologies in such fields as high value added technology and medicine/bio technology. KRICT also offers various training programs to educate future professionals in the field of chemistry, the most notable being the UST-KRICT School. The UST-KRICT School offers a systematic educational approach centered around major and specialized fields of research. At the UST-KRICT School, students are provided with a skilled teaching faculty, cutting edge research facilities, a unique academic curriculum, student welfare programs, and more. Through this, the UST-KRICT School strives to foster global professionals equipped with both knowledge and practical skills, who will become the leaders of tomorrow’s chemical industry.

    KRRI School

    Introduction

    The Korea Railroad Research Institute is opening a new era in railway transportation. KRRI was established in 1996 as a railway research body in Korea aimed at developing railway transportation and enhancing competitiveness in the industry by unfolding strategic R&D activities along with railway policies. KRRI's efforts will constantly improve railway technologies in a bid to create a better future by developing fundamental and up-to-date core technologies. KRRI has seen a success in its developments of the 350km/h high speed rail 'HSR-350x', the light rail transit 'K-AGT', the tilting train 'TTX' and standardized urban transit with information system for maintenance. These technology developments are expected TO BE APPLIED in the local market, while the technology behind these systems will expand overseas. KRRI is also in the process of developing a 400km/h high speed EMU, an ultra-high speed train, reducing the nation's logistics costs with the set-up of a logistics & transportation system, developing sustainable green transportation with low carbon emissions and connecting trans-Korean and intercontinental rail networks to realize a borderless economic bloc in the 'Eurasia-Pacific' Era. As the nation's think tank for the railway sector, KRRI is determined to provide the nation and the people with a new growth engine of top-of-the-line technologies that will playi leading roles in the world's railways. KRRI will stay the course exploring new values with creative and innovative ideas in the future.
