The goals of Advanced Drug discovery & development major are to combine cutting-edge approaches and technology that enable understanding of disease mechanisms, and develop new treatment and prevention strategies. Students study diseases and pathogens, from which students establish disease models and assays for drug screening. Also, they evaluate the drug efficacy of thousands of compounds through the cell- and image-based screening operated in the BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories and identifies novel candidates. Additionally, target identification and studies for the mechanism of action (MoA) are conducted for the candidates identified from screening. The research results are put to practical use and are used in R&D technology development that combines various specialized fields.
